Have Lunar cosmos 253 (2birth) been towing fine with hyundia matrix 1.6 petrol (bit slow uphill). Car needs replacing...looking at Dacia Duster.....petrol or diesel...any and all comments welcome
I seem to recall a couple of positive reviews on here for the Dusters.
The Renault diesel is a good torque engine.
Those Dusters are good value for an SUV. The French police use them.

Thx for comment, my only concern with desiel is they seem to be trying to get rid of them ??
It's not so long ago that the goverment was actually encouraging us to buy diesel not petrol cars, so who knows what they will do next. I would certainly buy another diesel and autogear box as well.
The diesel has app 8% more torque than the petrol.
I think it will be a long time before they are phased out.
The petrol Duster has more than double the torque than the Hyundai matrix.

The first thing to say is that, without knowing the weight of your caravan or the towing limits of the various engine options in the Dacia Duster, we can't advise if your combination is legal or sensible. That said, if you've previously been towing it with a Hyundai Matrix my gut reaction is you should be OK.
Diesel engines are generally better suited to towing heavy weights (like caravans) because they produce more of their power and torque at lower engine speeds so you shouldn't need to change down so often. However, a reasonably powerful petrol (or hybrid) engine should still cope and if when you're not towing you use the car mostly for short journeys, it will probably be the best compromise.
I haven't driven a Dacia Duster, but just be aware that it's cheap for a reason. It uses technology from previous generations of Renault cars, is built to a budget and lacks some of the safety features included as standard these days on more mainstream cars. Whether you can live with that is entirely your choice.
Personally I'd by a Golf (or a VW Touran or T-roc if you want a Golf with more space or a higher driving position), but that's just my opinion.

I would suggest ,when possible, make a short list and then test drive each one on the list. I did and decided to go for the Duster 1.3TCE petrol mainly on the cost difference.

The new Dacia are using the Renault tce petrol motors. Apparantly with very good torque. The Clio with that engine gets good reports.
Our neighbour has the Meganne Scenic with 1.5 diesel which goes very well.
