Hi everyone

We are looking to fit a tow bar to a Volkswagen Tiguan with parking sensors. Any recommendations for the Canterbury/Thanet area?

Thanks all

Can’t help with the area, but if you ensure that a VSK (Vehicle Specific Kit) install is used, then parking sensors will be accommodated for, along with disabling of “Stop Start” whilst towing, also car alarm integration with the unit being towed will be included.

The new electrics may need to be coded to the cars ECU (computer) as towing in operation will be displayed on the cars infotainment system.

All clever stuff, and certainly avoid a cheap install that does not use a VSK, but uses a relay and a fist full of scotch locks, to save on any future warranty issues.

I would always advise go for the Single 13 pin socket set up, rather than twin 7 pin sockets, whether it be a caravan or trailer that you are towing.

In fact if your just towing a trailer, you only need 7 pins wired into the 13 pin socket, which would save a little money on the install, with a fully wired VSK system they will put a couple of 15amp fuses into the cars fuse box.

Sorry to say but they are not cheap we had one fitted to our golf and not all fitting places would fit it because they need the right VW software to be able to do it and most were not prepared to buy it even our VW dealer referred us to another company. We paid around £650 for a detachable one.

Have you tried looking at the Witter website? You can book direct with them and give them the vehicle reg. no. so they can supply the correct towbar etc.
Worth a look if nothing else.

Yep, for a fixed I guess you are looking at £500 tops today, I got the 18 plate Mk7? Golf done in February 2018 at Indespension Bolton for £350 Brink Fixed Swan Neck fully wired 13pin VSK, and that was mates rates as I knew someone that worked there.

I was not to know, but my firm later lost the contract for my team, and we were all (7 off us) TUPED over to another firm, so I lost the Golf August 2018, to say I was gutted would be an understatement having only been able to use the tow bar once, albeit for our three week annual holiday to the South of France Grrrrr.

And I have not had a tow bar fitted since, as the new firm folded at the start of 2020, and we were yet again TUPED over to another firm, although there are only five of us in the team now.

We have the Škoda Yeti, pretty similar rear end to yours. The reverse sensors are I;the bumper above the height of the towball. The main cost installation seems to be th fitting of the wiring loom, to integrate with the electrical system, including the alteration to the programming. Ours was detachable Wesfalia swan neck, installed by dealer, who added just over £600 to the purchase price.

Have a look at PF Jones. They do mobile fitting including the recoding that will be required and come well recommended on several vehicle forums. (including the Yeti forums)

Yep Bessie that sounds about right for P F Jones, I called into there place at Stretford a year or so back, and found the same, I found the shop there really weird, albeit in a good way, they had some tents and lot’s of other stuff, there was even a cafe going on and even that seemed a little odd.

Mind you I was in Stretford.
