Hi Andy,

we've got the newer navara 68 reg. Towing a twin axle swift conqueror. Hooks up well and sits level (although some say otherwise) tows a dream and we have a canopy on the back which we put the awning and other heavy stuff in to weight the back down a bit. Fuel pretty good too, can get mid-high 20's towing steady and high 30's/low 40 without. It's a manual too.

Thanks for reply, that sounds good especially fuel consumption. Just done a run with my Landcruiser and medium size Coachman, came in at 12 mpg.

It is on LPG but still not good. Cosidering dumping it and getting something else.

Pick-up would be useful for us but earlier smaller engine Navarra did'nt have a very good reputation. The 3.0 ltr Outlaw seems to be getting better reviews.

Hope this is useful.

Hi Dan

Thanks for that. Yes, I am aware that they can have a bit of a chassis problem.

Seems as though you have to choose which devil you want to live with though.

Nothing you look at these days can be said to be bullet proof, most vehicles seem to be afflicted with some problem or other.

Or maybe it's just me being a dinosaur, longing for the days when cars were no more complicated than a Landrover County.

Take a look at the manual 2.5 litre Mitsibushi L200. I get around 28/29mpg with around 4500/5000kgs train weight.

L200 is a lovely motor but Mitsubishi are pulling out of the UK and Europe market and I am not sure what the spares situation will be like. It was never great on the earlier models with parts having to be air freighted to the UK for me on more than one occasion. All the Navara owners I know have had either chassis issues where the vehicle has literally collapsed on them or they have had expensive drive shaft issues. In the USA the Navara has had terrible problems and has damaged Nissan's reputation.

I love my pick up trucks have had a few over the years, and just could not function without one. There is no other vehicle that has the functionality of a good old truck, but I do lead a very rural life, dogs, logs, fishing and shooting etc, so they are a necessity, in fact where I live you are looked down upon of you don’t have one! 🤣

But the Navara is one I would not choose to have, not a great reputation as a work horse, although I currently have a Ranger I will be looking for a Hilux next year, just for something different. My Ranger has, and is, a great car, but I just like to change.

The only comment I would say, is Auto everyday, I would not even consider a manual vehicle again, especially for towing, an Auto is far, far superior.

As I wrote in my earier post:

Really wish they hadn't used such a mangy little engine in the Y61 Patrol. I loved my previous two (4.2 straight six diesel), and would have willingly had another.

Cerainly some interesting stuff on there about the Nissan chassis problems. That was what killed my Patrol in the end.

I got past wanting to roll around underneath welding, was getting like a wounded Tortoise rolling around on it's back trying to get up.

Getting all the more uncertain over what to get next though.

The newer shape navara's are fine on the chassis front.

From what I gather Nissan navara's are being pulled from the European market too in the next few years. Spanish factory I believe ceasing production next year. Shame as I really like ours in all respects.

That will lead to the dilemma of what to have next.
