Hi all, out of choice what would be the better tow car. I don't have a very heavy caravan, Swift challenger 480se 2 birth 2002 MPTLM 1262kgs.
1, Ford kuga 2.0L Diesel
2. Ford Mondeo 2.0L Diesel
I don't use it in winter and don't travel abroad, just don't want the tail wagging the dog. Thanks
There are probably several different versions of both, and they will be different weights. Best would be to look at the maximum towing weight of one that you are thinking of buying. Having said that, a lot of people on here seem to like the Mondeo as a tow car. I have no experience of either model so I can't comment on the comparison, but I'm sure others will be able to help.

Probably, they are both very similar, but I would prefer the higher seating position of the Kuga for getting in and out.
Just a personal choice.
Largely why I changed my Volvo V70 for a Nissan X Trail Jim. I'm of the same mind.
I prefer the Mondeo estate largely because of the enormous space available with the rear seats folded. We can get both bikes into this area.
But, as has often been said, it becomes a personal choice of what suits best the individual user.
I have had three Kugas 1 petrol which made hard work driving and 2 diesels. The Diesel 1 I have now tows my 1575kg van with no problems at all I am getting 31.7 mpg. The petrol only gave me 21.2g.

You don't say what engine size or power and torque outputs the diesel engines have, which will make a difference. However, if it's somewhere in the region of 2 litres and 140-150bhp then either car should comfortably tow your caravan.
A lot of people prefer the higher driving position of an SUV such as Kuga but the normal family car such as Mondeo should be cheaper to buy and run and is just as capable. Test drive them both and go for whichever one you prefer.
