Hi thinking of getting one of these to tow our 1st caravan which we haven't got yet (thinking Max mass 1500kg - 1800kg), The Korando (2.2L D) is rated to pull up to 2000kg.
Just wondering if anyone has any opinion on these as a tow car, good or bad?
Did you try the Search facility, results. Some might be of assistance.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
We had a 2.2 Korando and the kerb weight from memory was around 1800 kg. It was fine towing 1500 kg but I wouldn't consider towing over the kerb weight.

I presume you have a B+E licence?
Rob
I do have a B+E licence. Is towing over the kerb weight legal? Will this put a lot of stress on the engine?
In this case yes it's legal, The problem going that heavy is yes it put strain on the engine but the biggest thing is trying to stop and control a large 20-30 ft box that can basically act like a sail in bad weather.
You should always ensure that your you car is heavier than the caravan, Otherwise you will end up with the tail wagging the dog
The maximum towing limits are based on the weight of a trailer (not a high-sided caravan) that the car can physically move from a standstill on repeated hill starts. It does not necessarily follow that a caravan of that weight will be stable at 60mph on the motorway, particularly if weather conditions are poor.

Thanks for the replies, they make a lot of sense and are much appreciated.
If I may ask, what would you consider to be the perfect (most economical, weight matched, value for money, easy to drive/tow) tow vehicle to match my maximum needs? (1800kg) (anything less would give me a better ratio)

i don't actually know what size the car is but going off kerbweight i would say around 1600kgs max, That would get most large single axle caravans, plenty of new twin axles will also fall into that weight bracket.
The lower the weight the more comfortable it will be for you towing it
