Hi, I’m after some advice around a suitable tow car please.
Our van, (MTPLM is 1915kg), is currently a site van. We’re in the market for a new car so thought it sensible to consider purchasing a vehicle that would be able to tow.
My question is, does the 85% guidance still apply if we only want to hitch up on site for levelling purposes, or can we get away with a slightly lighter vehicle?
The 85% is only a guidance anyway, it has no legal bearing. Provided the car has a towing limit in excess of 1915kg you are legal. In any case if you aren't taking the outfit onto the public highway, it doesn't matter.
Not strictly true, Colin.
If the public have access to the land ,eg a campsite, then the Road Traffic Acts apply.
Unlikely to be prosecuted though I agree.
