The power output of the engine is another factor. You don't say what the year of manufacture of the van she is looking at is, but over the years it has been available with 1.9, 2.0 and 2.5 litre diesel engines. The least powerful is 85bhp, which is barely enough to move the van itself never mind a 1.6-tonne caravan as well. The next up is 102bhp which is still low although some people have had them performance chipped.

Next up has varied between 2.0 and 2.5 litre and 130-150bhp depending on model year, but in any event it's the pick of the bunch. There was a range topping 2.5 litre 174bhp (more recently replaced with a 2.0 twin turbo 180bhp) but these are relatively rare and consequently expensive.
