I know it’s been covered before, in fact I got the solution from one of the forum posts, so I’m just passing on my advice.
Anyone with a BMW X3/X5 etc that’s struggling with towing mirrors or cared of cracking the car mirror casing should really buy some EMUK mirrors, they’re quite pricy but are perfect fit for the car, once you have used them the first time and tightened the security nuts, they’re a doddle to fit, don’t vibrate when travelling and have a great field of view.
Really can’t recommend them enough, I believe they’re also available for some other makes and models.
When I first started caravanning back in 2005 I was towing with a Vauxhall Zafira (first model) which specifically designed towing mirrors were available very similar to the EMUK ones but only purchasable via a Vauxhall dealer at a cost of £80 which was somewhat expensive considering it was 17 years ago. However, the beauty about these particular towing mirrors is that they had a 3 point fixing (top, bottom and a screw clamp at the outer point of the car mirror housing). I must admit that they were the best towing mirrors I have ever used in terms of simplicity of fitting and eliminating any vibration and have never seen any on the market until reading this thread. I would imagine that the EMUK towing mirrors are somewhat identical in terms of eliminating any vibration which I'm tempted to buy a a pair but the biggest disadvantage is the purchase cost because if you ever give up caravanning or happen to change your vehicle for example then it's an item that is extremely difficult to sell as they are only designed for one specific vehicle so the interest would be very limited. Even if you try to sell them at a third of the price, it may be a terrific bargain but could be a huge loss if they happened to be left on your hands with no further use. After visiting the website for further details, it shows that the EMUK towing mirrors for my Volvo only have a two point fixing which is the much the same as the Milenco Grand Aero towing mirrors which I've been using for the past 12 years so I'm not sure if I would gain any benefit when the EMUK mirrors cost almost 115 quid.
Fully agree with you Paul. I bought a pair for my previous X3. As you say a little expensive but well worth the money, the best wing mirrors I have ever had. I replaced my previous X3 with a new one last year and the EMUK mirrors went straight on.
As well is two words!
