Hi, I've just had a towbar and 13-pin socket fitted to my Honda civic, for towing our caravan.
The socket is tucked right under the car and very tight to the bottom of the car. As a result the spring cap barely clears the socket, inserting and turning the caravan plug is beastly hard and takes the skin off my knuckles!
Ideally, a really short and rigid extension of about 4 inches would do the job, effectively bringing the socket out into daylight.
I've scoured the web and can't find anything like this, only extension cables which I don't need.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions to make this easier....
That makes it easy to feel where the plug should be to enter it into the socket. I can then push on the disc to turn it either to plug in or unplug. I wasn't happy with the position at first, but doing it a few times I now find it easy.
Just a thought! Mine is 'under the car' and attached to the fixed part of a 'removable' tow bar, but hinges down into a more accessible position for use, and obviously hinges back out of harms way when not required!
It's still a bit of fit by feel even when rotated into lower position though, unless you like standing on your head!
I permanently carry a door mat, in my case for fitting/unfitting the removable towball, but would be ideal if as you say, 'under' the car. Saves messing the trouser knees.
Also in my case, the socket simply pulls/swings down adjacent to the towball. When not in use, you'd not know there was a towbar installed.
