Hi, we have a VW Tiguan, R line 4 motion, 2013.

We are thinking of buying a Swift Challenger 540, 2010 model.

Would these be a compatible combination?

what does your vin plate say for the weights?

You need to find out the MTPLM of the caravan first then find out the kerbweight of the VW Tiguan. Once you have these figures you can then go online and find a percentage calculator and see what the match is between the towing vehicle and the caravan.
Your vehicle's V5 document should give you the maximum towing weight for a braked trailer.

Can we assume that the R line is the 2ltr diesel? That has kerbweight of 1695kg and max tow for 2200kgs. A very good car and more than suitable to tow Swift 540.

So, the weights I have from the VIN Plate are:

2240 kg
4440 kg
1- 1170 kg
2- 1120 kg

But I'm not sure which one is which?

I think they are maximum weights on the axles.

4440 kg Max legal Gross Train Weight which is loaded weight of car plus loaded weight of trailer

1- 1170 kg Max legal loaded weight on car front axle

I think you phrased it incorrectly? The max legal gross train weight is 4440kg which is not the loaded weight of the car. Loaded weight as you correctly state is 2240kg.

That's why I added the words "plus loaded weight of trailer". Don't know any other way of saying it.
