hi , all
i'm planning a trip from Yorkshire to Furnace near Machynlleth, in west Wales up north to Anglesey , Yorkshire to Furnace ,i've done before mostly, so i should be ok with that part, from Furnace to Anglesey using the A487 then A470 ,then A487 again up to Menai bridge, going through Machynlleth, Dolgellau, is this route ok towing a caravan, its not a large caravan "5 metres" but not particularly a light one, Coachman Amara, anybody know what this road is like, and the 2 towns i mentioned above
thanks for any input

Machynlleth is a small town so should be fine. You go past Dolgellau, not through it so also ok. The roads are ok, a bit up and down and twisty in places, but it is Wales.

We have "done" this area many times. To my mind the best way is to stick with the A487 all the way to the Cross Foxes. There may be a problem with the Dyfi bridge though, it's closed at the moment but due to re-open "in early 2024" https://www.gov.wales/a487-new-dyfi-bridge
Also the stretch of road between Corris and the Cross Foxes is part of the Mach Loop. If you're very lucky you may be treated to the noise and sight of very low flying military aircraft

thank you both for your input, i've now booked the Furnace site , hoping to see the Ospreys at the Cors Dyfi site. Then onto Anglesey
wow, -- thanks Flat at, that Mach loop looks spectacular, looking forward to driving through that valley, hope they get the bridge completed before July
i'm from the same area as you, so will be driving over the Pennines to Chester, then A494 to Machynlleth

If you go down the A494 there is a car park, with toilets, on Llyn Tegid just past Bala. It's the left turn after the leisure centre. Don't go into the leisure centre car park, there are some fierce speed humps in there (ask me how I know) https://www.google.com/maps/ at 52.9065233,-3.6063975,3a,75y,168.04h,84.31t/data=!3m6........

The car park is huge I've never had a problem getting parked with the 'van on. Be aware that there are lots of 20 mph speed limits all over Wales which were introduced last September and may increase your travel time.

Mach loop schedules are released on a weekly basis by the RAF. Available through .gov website.

RAF Valley is also worth a drive by when in Anglesey if you want a free airshow. Flying every weekday.

i dont blame you at all. its off my list for future use by us thats for sure! nice site with hard standing pointing towards the airport but absolutely nothing else around it to warrant £50 and certainly not for a cl! its worth about £20 a night including the ehu. we used the site 5 years back and it was £15 a night
