Does anyone tow with a recent (up to 2 years old) one of these? If so, would you recommend? What is realistic mpg towing and non-towing? Any negatives?
We are considering getting a new or nearly new one to replace our current 2018 Kia Sorento diesel automatic (which we are very happy with).
We would happily get another Kia or Hyundai equivalent, but new ones cost more than we are prepared to pay and nearly new are few and far between.
I have read the previous threads on here, but would appreciate more up-to-date opinions if possible.

It had a reasonable write up in one of the club magazines. It's a heavy car so not the best economy.
We test drove one, an ex demo. It's big and roomy and drove well.
We found the front seats very hard and short in the seat squab. Even on a short trip it wasn't comfortable for us.
Shame as it was a good price and a well equipped vehicle.
Of course that is personal choice, but We felt that long trips would not be pleasant.
Give one a try it might be fine for you.

Think you may find a couple of the towing reviews worth a read:

https://www.practicalcaravan.com/reviews/ssangyong-rexton-2

https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/blog/product-and-outfit-reviews/towcar-reviews/towca........

I've looked at them, sat in them etc. at caravan shows, and from that aspect difficult to differentiate from competition in most respects, it's got it all and it doesn't scream poor quality to the eye or touch, personally did find much of the styling detail too 'fussy' for my tastes.

I've considered them as a tow car, but aspects of reviews have struck me, tows cars are often a compromise when towing but great solo, these seem to have the reverse characteristic to some extent! No doubt about it, the underlying engineering is a little 'last year' and not as advanced as the competition.

Any car is inevitably a compromise, but the affordability of a Ssangyong has to be major plus for most of us! Thing is can you live with is 'quirks' at the price. I suspect if you were moving up from a much older (previous generation technology) car, you wouldn't notice the quirks as much.

It would be good to hear some personal experience from owners.

Just a small point I have worked in the motor trade for over 49 years and the Ssangyong will not hold its value for long, obviously if you intend keeping it for a rew years that won't be an issue.

Some caravanning friends of mine have a Ssangyong but it's the Korando 2.2 diesel model not the Rexton so can't offer any info on that model unfortunately. They were that impressed with their previous one that they decided to buy a younger model but thought I would just mention it in relation of the Ssangyong brand in terms of reliability. They also tow a four berth Swift single axle caravan and say it tows extremely well.

I am a former Rexton owner, in fact the first one was so good I got another, but not the current model.

The second one I had was the top of the range and I had to fly down from Scotland to Southampton to get it.
It was a cracking machine(ex demo) and the drive back went by in what seemed like no time.

I never had a bit of bother with either of them.
I used the first one to tow our Pennine Pathfinder, which was obviously no issue, and the second one pulled our Lunar Clubman again with no problem.

I do always like to have a look at the new ones at shows just to see how they have come along.

Thanks for the review. Any comments on towing/non-towing mpg?

I'm afraid I never look at the mpg of any vehicle that I have owned.

To me it is what it is, and just drive on.

Regarding not checking MPG, I check mine around once a month. When I was learning to drive I was told that if it wasn't checked regularly you would be unaware if a problem was developing in the fuel system.
