There is a lot of stuff on the BBC website about this .....and  its the Lib Dem environment spoksman calling for more tax bands based on emissions .....so if  you have a 3 ltr be it a 4X4 or not then expect to pay more ............but only if the governement think they should introduce these new tax bands..............dont think they have considered it .......havent read about it ........    It is a fact though if you are a pedestrian  unfortunately  hit by a 4X4 while crossing the road ....even at low speed .....it is not  going to scoop your legs out from under you  like a car so you roll off the bonnet.......its going to  knock you flat and then go over you . and that does make them less safe in towns

What is really unfair is you can have a car the same as the bloke next door same engine size same emissions came off the assembly line the same day. But if your car was registered the day before Gordon Brown stood at the dispatch box and introduced the road fund licence rate based on emissions......tough you pay £165 a year.  If your bloke next door registered his car after 6pm on  budget day he gets the benefit of the lower tax . his emmissions rate applies your does not .

you are a pedestrian  unfortunately  hit by a 4X4 while crossing the road ....even at low speed .....it is not  going to scoop your legs out from under you  like a car so you roll off the bonnet.......its going to  knock you flat and then go over you . and that does make them less safe in towns .

same could be said for buses , lorries , transit vans and any other large vehicle  popular in town.

I agree with the above comment 100%.
same could be said for buses , lorries , transit vans and any other large vehicle  popular in town.   <----this part
The fact is that been ran over by any car will prob be fatal.

Myself like jon bought a 4X4 disco for a purpose "not to pose in" eg tow our caravan, and I think I have protected my family that little bit more as they dont bend as much as a car in a crash.

We cant win here...the goverment will win hands down.
But It is not fair to be victomised.
The goverment just do what they want !

I wonder why I never Vote ? Cos they are all the same...

i have a zafira estate 7 seater have done school run and had protesters at local school having a go at 4x4 drivers but when i sat back and looked every seat was filled and what makes more sense a 4x4 loaded  with every seat filled or three small cars unloaded at least the owners of 4x4 believed in car sharing taking it in turn picking kids up safety in 4x4 i would of been happier with my children sat in a discovery or similar i just wish we could afford to buy one
