just sold my Nissan Terrano . Now looking for a towcar , preferably diesel , hatch or estate capable of towing to a max of 1200 kgs. I have a budget of £2000.

looking at , Mondeo TD , Vectra , 406 estate , or any other ideas ??

i dont really want to go over £2k as the extra money i got for the Nissan is to be used on home improvement project, but still need a decentish tug.

regards Jon

The Primera is a pretty reliable car and a good towcare. We had a 1.8 petrol and it pulled our can no problem. Taxi drivers use them, so they must be good.

Can't believe it Bev+jon!!!! Are you coming over to the other side?? Try this, some one told me a while a go when I got mine and I cant believe it.

Mitsubishi Charisma DID. 2-0 diesel engine, will tow that weight no problem (refer past threads) Get the elegence model and you get, check this out- Full leather, AC, Cruise control, Onboard Computer, Electric everything,  3 years Manufactures warrenty (although they are not selling new any more, been replaced by spacestar)  but warrentyis transferable, and unlimited on mileage,  you will also pay the lowest ammount on Tax, and check this out it will return a massive 55-65 mpg, think of the saving's now the challenger tank has gone. And to top it all off, you could get a 1yr old one of these for little over 7k and a 3 yr old one for around 5k. They were 16k when new 2 years ago, and have won tow car of the year for it's class a few years back.

good luck hunting.

hia panangah.

not really a case of coming over to the other side, more a case of financing home improvements. for us , the vanning season is virtually over , we`ve had our 2 weeks in france and a few weekends away. we paid not alot for the terrano and ive sold it on at a reasonable profit.

i can go up to £2k on a half decent towcar which rules out a Charisma , a car which personally i dont particularly like , a tad bland but each to their own.

might go back to a xantia , maybe an hdi , dirt cheap , self levelling suspension & the BEST diesel engines around.

My dad towed with one...

He loved it - swapped it for a 110 HDi but it never lived up to the 2.1.

He was then towing a Bailey Pageant Majestic at about 1100Kg.
