Helloo

Could anyone offer advice? We are about to order a new caravan and we have only towed a folding camper before so my current car handled that very well. This is an Audi A4 1.9 tdi.

I now need to buy a vehicle to tow the van and this has a maximum laden weight of 1500 kgs.

We have been looking at 4x4's but there are so many we are now completely confused.

This will be my wife's new car so she will use this on a daily basis but not to go far.

Can anyone offer advice/info on the best 4x4's and also MPV's

Thank you (in advance)

I like my Shogun but it is only a short wheelbase one. For a van that heavy I'd go for a long wheel base one.

Or there's Rangerover, Discovery, Toyota, Nissan, Jeep, Hyundai, you're right it is confusing, the list goes on & on.

I quite like the look of the Rexton - one of our local garages is a SsangYong dealer - they are very spacious, large and comfortable looking.

Hi Caz

We did a test drive in a shogun sport - it was very nice, meaty and a real brute. What is yours like on fuel economy?

It is diesel 2.5 and does about 28 mpg solo and about 24 mpg towing. It is 10 years old, I understand that the new models are slightly better consumption.

Try a Volvo V70 tdi. I tow a van with a maximum weight of 1500kg with mine. The car weighs 1660kg kerbweight. Much better economy than a 4x4,

I have found the Nissin X- Trail OK. You only engage 4 wheel drive when required.Which means for most of the time you would be in 2 wheel drive.

The vehicle is not over large and suitable for normal driving and should prove suitable to man or woman.

I have the 2.4 petrol- you may wish to consider the 2.2 diesel

Regards

I'm on my third Jeep, two Cherokee's (petrol) and the current one a Grand Cherokee (diesel), its the 2.7 CRD (Mercedes Engine) and does about 30 mpg normal commuting.

Loads of room, comfortable and reliable, and a max tow of around 3500Kg. Its got an auto box, which gives an effortless drive when towing.

I've driven most of the pretenders, but as the Jeep adverts say "theres only one"

Cheers

Cant beat the Kia Sorento in my opinion.

Best value big 4x4 out there. Its my wifes car and she is so comfortable with it she did most of the towing down to Cornwall and back !

Well, a man has to get his beauty sleep!

There's nothing like a Jeep really.  I have the 3.0CRD Grand Cherokee and it's very much on top of the job.
