Hi there,

Does anyone out there tow with an "E" Class Merc ? the 320 cdi model to be exact. I,ve towed the last six years with a couple of Disco's with no problems but fancy a change now somthing with a bit more power. What I need to know is the kerb weights, I understand the estates are in excess of 1600 kg Which would just about do me. Any other comments about their ability as towcars would be welcome, e.g fuel consumption both solo and towing, is the auto box up to it, etc.

            Many Thanks, Neil

Hi Neil,

I have a two year old very unreliable E270 Estate with a very expensive (£2700) towbar. MB will invalidate the warranty if a third party towbar is used! I tow a Pennine Pathfinder which is about a metric tonne or so but could be a little more if we bring back more wine and beer! I have experienced no problems and the car handles this 'light-weight' extraordinarily well. We are upgrading to a caravan this winter and I have tried to ascertain the various weights from the dealer and MB. The dealer shriugs his shoulder and refers me to the sales guys whilst MB quote 1900Kg whicg is far too high. Hope you have more luck with your MB than we have

Claire
