Hi All.

Interested to know which types of caravan I can buy to tow with my Peugeot 307 2.0 110BHP TDI.

It has a ball weight of 60kg and a max tow weight of 1360.

Anyone have any experiences of towing with a car that is lighter or on the limit of what the stats say?

What are the pitfalls and disadvantages if any?

I tow an 860 kg van with my 1.4 deisel Megane (kerbweight of 1175 kg).

The only real problem I have is lack of power on hills.  And of course, the missus getting us lost with her map reading

TomTom for crimbo.

Thankyou.

I should be fine then.

I can recommend the TomTom 700 for directional based arguments (We all have those caravan or not) :-)

The 700 comes with maps of europe installed as standard!

Its saves countless spats I can tell you. If purchased the only argument that you will have is who gets to operate it!

Cheers

J

Hi,

We have had many customers over the last year or so with the same dilema they want a caravan but dont want a 4x4 to lug it around, we also have many of our customers moving up from trailer tents and folding campers. So we have become agents for the caravelair range of caravans, who provide some very low weight continetal style vans which have an ex works weight of a mere 700 kg for a 4 berth model. We would welcome you to our centre to have a look or if you wish we could send you a brochure. kind regards

Do not want to interupt this thread but would be interested in the above lightweight vans.  Please post to Mrs Boxford, 13 Edwin Panks Rd, Hadleigh, Ipswich IP7 5JL

Have a look here for your towing weights on the car, they say the caravan should be no more than 85% of the total weight of your car if you are inexperienced at towing.

Hi

The trouble is that mostof the caravan manufacturers are building biger and heavier vans.

I tow with an early Skoda Octavia with a kerb weight of 1250 Kg

We have just bought a second hand Avondale (900 Kg) and we are going to sell our other ABI Ace Airstream (1000 Kg)

Iv'e had no trouble with either of the vans.

Just make sure the van you buy is in good condition

Good luck

There are so many caravans with a maximum weight including load of 1200 kgs. Enough choice, I would say.
It would also depend a bit on the internal space you want in a caravan.
Mine is 430 inside measurements, but as it is lateral fixed bed and 230 wide there still is relatively much space. Due to the width it is easy to pass one another, which can be more difficult in narrower vans. This aspects contributes a lot to the feeling of space or lack of space.
When looking for caravans you have to walk up an down in the caravans in the showroom together, to get experience how it will be in practice, e.g. one person looking for something in the kitchen cupboards, the other one passing to go to the loo at the same time. And that's how it works in practice.
