Hi Welcome

Depends on the caravan you choose. Someone posted this link last week, put in the make and model of your car and caravan, and it will give you the outfit match.

If you can find a good clean Piper van they are light enough for 1.6 I use to tow one behind an Escort Estate before I gave up vanning 10 years ago, but you will have to drive well on your gears. I miss the social life so I am Vanning again.

We towed our first caravan with a Cavalier 1.6 petrol without too much of a problem except on steep hills in Wales, BUT it was only 10 feet long and didn't have running water, toilet, oven or anything else much other than a 2 ring hob and some beds.

Hi there

We already had a focus 1.6 petrol and couldnt afford to change both car and purchase caravan ..... but ..... last May, quite by fluke we were so lucky in finding an ABI 400D Sprinter, year 2000.  Everything on the tow check lit up green so we were away.  Used it for couple of locallish weekends last year and our holidays in Devon and York.  Towed brilliant, really pleased.  Good luck.

I tow with a 2.0 Focus and it behaves really well.  I have seen quite a few Focuses on the road with a van behind so cant be all bad!

Hi Marky, There are several vans that you could tow as already mentioned, I myself tow with a 1.6 petrol and find it copes very well in all conditions, ok so the fuel gauge goes down faster with the van on the back but still manages about 65% of the normal running cost. Having travelled along a good selection of roads, from single track to motorway, I can say that we have never had any problems.
Its all down to the match of your van and car, if you stick to the manufacturer's stated limit or the 85% rule then it should not be a problem.

Happy caravanning!
