We have recently bought an Omega to tow our Sunbeam (bought end of last summer). Waiting to fit towbar to car but unsure as to best type.
We are also a little worried about whether we should upgrade the springs on the rear suspension. The car is a 2.5 V6 petrol automatic with automatic leveling. Does anyone have any experience with this or similar???
Any advice would be welcomed...........

Hi Sis, As to type of tow bar I think that would be a matter of personal preference. Regarding your Omega ( excellent towing vehicle according to recent articles in the press) I used to have a Carlton Diplomat fitted with automatic leveling and as long as I didn`t exceed the towball limit of 75kg found it to be excellent, no matter how loaded the boot was. Hope this is of some help.
We had the 2.5Td (BMW Engine) Omega estate, great tow car , plenty of space, pulled our Abbey van no problems at all, approx 27mpg when towing, Go for it.
Hi ,we had a Lunar sunbeam the omega is a great tow car and the Lunar sunbeam is a light weight caravan [it has a alumiium chassis] As far as tow bars are concerned Whitters/Brinks /Towsure are all good ,however it is important that the bar is fitted correctly by a good fitter. Shop around and ask any local members for a recomendation .Good luck and safe towing. Coljac
It is good to know the omega is well thought of for towing, we had a 1.7 before, which struggled on hills. Will get towbar fitted professionally in the next month. Anyone know of a good fitter in the Woking/Guildford area???

Hi, on my second omega now 2.5 & 2.6 & have no prob`s with either. I get about 22 mpg towing, you don`t even no your towing. try yellow pages for a fitter, we got a mobile service from dartford area yhat came to crawley.
We are on our 2nd omega and 3rd caravan! We had a detachable swan neck tow-bar fitted. We purchased the tow-bar from tow-sure and got a fitter out of the yellow pages worked out much cheaper.
Just got an offer from the father-in-law to pay for a vauhall dealer fit! I am one very happy girl who is looking forward to being on her first trip this year ................ REAL soon!
Not going far, but going...........................

Wehave had 2 Omega's both towed very well. We had a Witter on the first car which was OK but the tow ball always seemed a bit low to the ground and gave the van a front down attitude when connected. Whilst this is OK it did bottom on speed ramps etc.
The second car had a swan neck Vauxhall tow bar which was slightly higher and the van had a more level attitude. This combination certainly towed better and did not have problems with it hitting speed ramps.
With self-levelling suspension, the need for further enhancement is negated with this car. Even if you didn't have this feature, the suspension is strong enough anyway. You will not know the 'van is there except that the fuel gauge needle moves quite quickly!
As for the type of towbar, I can tell you that I had a Brink Removeable fitted first off and I found it a flippin' nightmare to deal with and it was very expensive to buy and have fitted. After just one season I had it removed and replaced with a fixed one and all my problems disappeared.
Reasons, well I found that I had to get down on my hands and knees to fit it and being a sufferer of arthritis in both knees, this manoeuvre is no mean feat. It was fiddly to fit and needed a fair amount of strength as well.
