Hi

My company are changing their fleet cars from Mondeo Estates to Skoda octavia estates, has anyone  towed with this car, if so how big was your van and what does it perform like when towing.

Hi
They've just brought out a new model looks very nice, though I think they're still selling the older models so find out which you're having.
I wouldn't say no to one as opposed to the mondeo, but then again I'm not sure if they can pull, I think they do a 1.9 tdci and a 4x4 model not sure of the kerbweight though. Supposed to be a class car though with good specs.

The 'new' Skoda estate has been out since the middle of last year, about a year after the saloon/hatch was launched.

Besides body changes, the big difference against the previous model is the fact that you can get it with the 2.0TDI engine, which is a flyer.  I've got one with the DSG box, and it's brilliant, although I don't tow with it.

The 2.0 engine is significantly more powerful and more refined than the 1.9, but costs £1000 more!!  When I was checking it out, I didn't even consider the 1.9.

Hi

I tow at 90% with a 2003 Skoda 1.9tdi ambient estate (1430kg). However, I am at my limit with my bailey 500/5 max 1295kg against the cars max 1300kg. Noseweight is 60kg so you can see I have to be careful.

However, I believe the new skodas weigh in at about 1500kg with a max tow of 1400kg and noseweight of 75kg. Models obviously may vary.

Up till now the car has been a good tug. However, may look to change in September to get the better weights.

Good luck and stay safe

Kevin

Thanks both,  A few of my colleagues have said that they are very good cars, allthough none of them tow with it, this is my biggest concern as i have a 6 berth bailey, My mondeo tows this with No problem what so ever, I towed to the south of France last year and didnt know it was there( until i hit the mountains ). We are venturing to to the Med side of france this year, so i was hoping the Skoda will do the same job. I dont fancy downsizing in the Caravan dept

I tow with a 2004 Skoda Octavia 5 door hatchback L & K with the 130 bhp Tdi diesel engine. It will tow my Bailey Pageant Majestic all day in 5th gear (out of 6 gears) up hill and down dale. I also find the acceleration, even with the 'van on the back, phenominal. I have surprised a few people when accelerating from traffic lights with the 'van in tow

I own a Superb 2.5 TDi for towing and a Fabia vRS 1.9 TDi for my everyday runabout while my wife uses the Superb.

They are both absolutely excellent.  When they launch the Octavia vRS with 170 TDi unit we will be first in the list to buy one to replace the Superb!

The skoda engines are the same as in Audi, VW and Seat. All owned by VW. The diesels are excellent. I am in the middle of changing cars. My Audi has been towing at 97% of kerbweight since we got our new van. I am about to get an Audi A6 2.5 tdi V6. Only changing for the kerbweight.

The Octavia won towcar of the year not so long ago, I tow with a Fabia 1.9TDI so I can't really say, but Skoda's are excellent cars, I'm on my second one now and looking to replace with another Skoda next year. Just to back up what's already been said, watch the weight limits, especially noseweight. All the best.  Rick.
