can any of you who owns the mk3 mondeo, 2001-2006 especially the diesel,do me a favour ?

next time you`re in your car have a listen when the clutch pedal is pressed (may need the window down to notice) and tell me if there is a very light constant squeak / or chattering.This goes when the pedal is released and is not as noticeable when pedal fully down.ive noticed this on mine over the last few days when ive had window down, cant say whether its always done it, but i know others have had problems similar to this that have eventually led to new clutch,slave cylinder and flywheel.

be most grateful for any help before i try a warranty claim.

I've not got a Mondeo myself, but sounds like clutch release bearing to me...

ok , update time . car needs new slave cylinder , clutch has to be changed also,  plus a new dual mass flywheel as these have a habit of coming apart and smashing the gearbox casing.big problem on any mk3 mondeo with over 80k on the clock.

im lucky, im only paying for parts ,(450) the dealer i bought it from is paying labour costs even though car is out of warranty and these parts arent covered.

the price for all this work should be 900-1000 !!!  add 2k if your gearbox goes !!

you have been warned.....

ours was a problem with the electric injectors on one of the cylinders...and its had to be sent away...

dont let it put you off a gorgeous car though...We know a few people who tow with there tdci and they can't praise it enough...

We also took out extended warranty this evening for the bargain price of £240.... fully comprehensive warranty...

no, its not put us off , we still love the car it does all we ask of it effortlessly. did consider part exchanging it but theres nothing else out there as good in our price range so decided to bite the bullet and get it repaired.its peace of mind now knowing there`ll soon be a new clutch that should last a good while (fingers crossed).

we are considering a warranty through warranty direct , it covers wear and tear after a 90 day inception period as well as your usual  mechanical failures.bit steep at 285 though .

My 2006 tdci had a new clutch today - just 10k miles and 2 caravan tows since buying it in March.  One slightly slopey site necessitating reversing into limited space did the trick.  Clutch apart, it tows well - better than the petrol model I traded in because of repeated clutch problems   In that case a replacement clutch etc did not solve a worrying sudden loss of transmission from time to time, usually on motorways full of cones....

After 20 years' towing, I'm suddenly averse to anything other than a level site.  Any further probs and I'll develop an aversion for Mondeos.

thats been busy, 10k since March , you must live in the thing..lol

great cars, shame about the persistent clutch problems.
