I have just bought a second hand caravan and i need to collect it but i cant collect it at the moment due to having no were to site it. I am going to build a drive, but in the meantime can i just park it outside my house on the highway in my town i have seen lots of vans just on the road with hitch locks and such like wheel clamps so that they cannot be stolen Please some help me?????
I think leaving a caravan on the road can be classed as an obstruction. I'm sure I read (on this site, probably) that anything other than a car must have lights on to be left on the road at night too. Don't think you'd be very popular with the neighbours either! Is there a dealer or storage site within a sensible distance of you that can help you out short-term?
If its only going to be a few weeks it should'nt be a problem. The only people who can make you move it are your local council, maybe have a word with your neighbours out of courtesy and hope noone complains to the council.
I'm not sure about the legal aspect of parking on the side of a road but one thing that I would be concerned about is that it would stand out from the "crowd" and may attract the odd bit of vandalism, I have notice a van parked a mile or so from me in a similar situation which has had the windows smashed.
It may also be wise to inform your insurance company to make sure that they will cover you temporarily in this situation.
i may know of a storage site near kirby lonsdale access road not fantastic nor is security but its off the beaten track and cannot be seen from the road the only people going up that lane are vanners collecting/dropping off
Nice one folks thanks for all your help just one question do they just offer storage or could i work on it while it is there i would probably ave to ring and ask wouldnt i

Hya Dodgy, Lots of sites offer storage, some of the C&CC sites offer storage so it may pay to look around the local sites & explain your situation. Ask a couple of the local farmers, we're nice people & you may find one who'll let you use a corner. Go & see an owner of a local CL 5 van site to see if they can store it for you. To be honest, I'd think twice before leaving it on the road outside your house. If some numpty comes flying down the road & uses your caravan as his garage you'll wish you'd put your hand in your pocket & stored it somewhere.
I don't know where you are, I never read your profile but I'd say that as long as you're not on the coast then storage charges shouldn't be too high.
