Hi all

Yip its me again....i pick up my van on the 24th of July. Does anyone know if there is somewhere i can book to have a driving lesson which includes towing as i have been driving for 17 year but never towed and starting to get a little anxious about the towing side of caravaning including hitching to tow ball, Reversing basically everything. so would be great to have a go with someone there.....Thanks all

If you are a member of the C&CC then give them a ring about their manoeuvering courses. I've just done one this weekend and it was really worth it.

Just take things easy when you start towing Ringo, you'll be OK as long as you are confident that you can make the outfit do what you want it to do & not the other way round. On the road just drive at your speed & don't worry about being below the speed limit. Remember it is a limiy NOT a speed you have to achieve.

As far as reversing is concerned. Reverse looking out of your drivers window & to remind you which way to turn your steering wheel, treat your caravan as if your reversing into your garage, that way you'll turn the car the correct way to compensate with the direction of the caravan.

If you have an HGV driving school near you, go & see them, they'll have an off road reversing area for their pupils to practise on. Chances are they might let you have a play there with the caravan. Alternatively, go to a large car park on a quiet day & practise there. You'll soon pick it up. Just remeber to take your time & put being in control uppermost in your mind.

You could look in Yellow Pages for local driving schools that offer "B + E" tuition - this is for the towing test that new drivers have to take if they want to tow outfits with a gross trainweight over 3,500 Kgs.

when you are reversing put your hands at the twenty to two position on your steering wheel.that way when you pull your left hand down the van turns left and vice versa.
