It might seem crazy but I can think of two reasons, the first I would assume it's 'dipped' in the 'coating' which I also assume is a bit better than straight forward 'paint'. This then ensures complete coverage and good rust resistance for the rest of the towball. If they were then to remove the coating on the ball itself then this has every chance of being rusty before you get it, it would certainly look less than brand new. They could of course put another type of protection on the ball but then they would have to tell you to remove that!

Speaking as a caravanner and as I find on Towsure, I have dealt with them once at a show and got fantastic service and a cracking deal on a pair of recliners. I do also buy the blue and pink stuff from them because I would have to buy a case of each from my trade supplier to save just a tiny bit on their single price.

I've ordered twice from Towsure.  First time was overcharged but 'Mr Towsure' sorted it out quickly and the second time one of the two items was out of stock but they sent it on a couple of weeks later (no extra delivery charge either).  Have ordered their catalogue twice and not had any problems getting them.

Any problems,  I found it was best to ring Mr Towsure himself.

We only have one local dealer (12 miles away) and they are mostly expensive.  Other than that we would have to travel (about 45 mins) to the next lot of dealers and one of them would include the Humber Bridge Toll (nearly £3 each way).  So Towsure for any parts is good value for us.  Unless of course we fancy a trip out.

Decided to take the plunge with a full awning, and wanted it for weekend.

Checked our local dealer, and to be fair I would have bought from them, but £70.00 more expensive was a bit much.

Dropped JT an email, requested a read receipt-duly received.

He checked stock at our local Towsure branch, then contacted Dorema to check availabilty for next day shipping before replying.

Awning should be here tomorrow, Wednesday latest

Couldn't fault the response, and a nice guy to chat with.

He might be making a rod for his own back, but while he is happy to give his direct email, may as well cut out the middle men/women and keep him busy

I'm going to use this topic to commend Gary from ARC for the quality of his service. I was still waiting for a reply to my email to him when a package arrived on my doorstep. I know everyone on here has benefitted fromn his advice and help over the years, and are well aware of this, but for me, this is spectacular service. I haven't even sent the cheque off yet, and I'm on the other side of the world. If only all suppliers were as good. Thnak you again Gary.

Thanks for all the feedback - positive and negative - it's all constructive and will help things improve for the future!

To clarify things, I come on here in a personal capacity to try and help out. I work for Towsure and therefore use the 'Towsure' username to avoid confusion. People called me Mr. Towsure originally in jest (although it is understandable!): I'm certainly not the owner and I come on here because I choose to, not out of commercial considerations or because anyone has ever told me to, and I've always tried to offer impartial advice and guidance.

Of course, I've also responded to comments about the company with a view from 'the inside' (not least sticking up for very hard-working and conscientious colleagues where appropriate - hence my response to the suggestion that they know 'bugger all', sorry if I seemed a little sharp!).

I've enjoyed coming on here over the last couple of years, getting to know some UKCSers personally, and having some great chats  - sometimes on the phone from the office but even in one notable example at 5.30am in the morning in a sodden field near Bristol! I hope that I've been able to help out members who have been after some really obscure things, and other bits and pieces at the last minute. Thanks for your kind comments about the awning.

I'm going to be leaving Towsure at the end of the week for pastures new - as some of you know, I've combined my work here with working and teaching at the Sheffield universities, I'm also going to be managing a community history project in the South Yorkshire coalfields. But I may still pop on here using my personal username (time permitting - our first little one is expected in the spring, all being well!) and may well return to help out at Towsure in the future. In the meantime, I've asked a colleague to come onto UKCS and help people out if appropriate (I'm sure he will also give feedback on any comments offered about the company).

Quick responses to points raised: Chalkie56, on Sunday lunchtime I was in a pub with my wife for her birthday - sorry if it seemed like I was 'hiding' from the thread. I don't tend to come on at the weekends to talk about work (although I have on occasion, when members have needed 'emergency' advice). As you can see, the other posts in the thread since I replied were after 5pm on Friday. Sorry I didn't get chance to reply yesterday - Mondays are very busy in the office and I was at our steelworks all morning fitting a towbar to a rather nice RV.

The B666 is a type-approved towbar designed to be used with Alko stabilisers. The same rules apply to it as for all such towballs - including the normal advice re. wire wool etc. I will ask our webteam to put further advice on the website, as on lots of threads here. I should imagine that our operative was responding to whether we apply any additional coating On other parts, including towballs if requested, we apply our own paint, powder-coating, galvinisation or similar. We do not do this with the towballs for the alko stabiliser - they are supplied to the customer as supplied to us (and to all other retailers and dealerships).

Re. e-mail and web commerce. Our website certainly works, as we receive hundreds of orders each day. But I will pass comments on to the relevent people to see if they are aware of any further problem. Cammie - you're right about the need to get the e-mails sorted asap, although I'm not sure the problem lies with the ISP. We're having a big session next week to get this sorted - we're not losing that many e-mails, but even a few can have a big effect for those customers (as we're more than aware).

BTW I wasn't suggesting that Jennie should have e-mailed me to chase the catalogue, I just wondered whether she had (considering the problems we've had with the e-mail system and because I think I posted on here that I'd sent it). Obviously, a copy is in the post!

Best wishes everyone for the future. I probably won't get the chance to pop on again this week, so good luck with everything and I hope UKCS goes from strength to strength. It really is an excellent site, partly because of the efforts of the admin team and also especially because of the friendly attitude and helpfulness of its members. It's been a pleasure to get to know some of you.

All the best,

John

'Mr. Towsure'

(although this is first and last time I'll ever use this name myself, it'll be strange not to get e-mails and phone calls addressed to Mr. Towsure.....!)

John

Thanks for taking the time to post - I apologise if I dumped all that in your lap as I was under the misapprehension that you were 'mr towsure' .  that's what you get for jumping in....

Anyway just wanted to wish you well in your new job.

You're right Gary - I was referring to Couplands at Louth.  I never think of going to Kenny at Magnum and you are quite right about him being on our doorstep - we only live a few streets away from his business.  And another stupid thing about it is I know Mel (Tommy) that works for him - I actually work with his wife!!!!   I think the only time he's open at the weekend is a Saturday morning though.  I suppose the Towsure brochure is convenient and we can get it delivered either to the door to parents house.
