I'm not sure Les, but I'd take a guess at it being Front Wheel Drive. Simply because having test driven one there's a distinct 'lack' of power on take off. Plus I believe that they're cheaper to manufacture. I could be wrong, and I stand to be corrected.

BTW, I used to work in Newmillerdam, and my boss lived in Sandal...know it very well, even though I now live in France!

Hello

How's it going?

I'm keeping a watching eye on the Kia Carens too - looks a good car!

Also keeping an eye on the Chevy Lacetti which should hopefully be diesel before not too long!

Also know Sandal & Newmillerdam well! I work for Wakefield Council and life just down the road from Sandal!

I am just so-o-o-o-o-o-o GREEN with envy coz if I was to win the lottery I'd buy hubby a Sorento! Not only have they been voted tow car of the year 2006 but they look pretty tasty too.

There's no way my 1.8 Zafira would be any good as a tow car for our Ellie but I'd love to get a Sorento.

I've been yearning for one of these babies since first seeing it in Practical Caravan mag but hubby kept saying he didn't like the look of it, (as if we could afford one anyhoo!), until........,I pointed one out to him, towing a rather large tin tent behind it and only then did he agree that one would be nice...........better start doing more lottery numbers methinks

Hope the Big Guy's listening Graham!

Hiya'papa pip,

Anyone contemplating a Carens be wary of the maximum towing capacity - only 1250kgs I believe.

Thanks Prospector, well within the range i need for the old thomson Glennevis which is rated at around 900kg.
was in my local tyre center today getting two new tyres and was reading the What Car mag that was lying, they had a list of the top 12 MPV and the carens was 4th which was good as it was rated higher than most of the other MPV's I have on my list. I think that in December I will be getting a Carens from a certain big chap with the white beard!

Papa-pip.

1250kg is often quite enough,  We have just changed our Elddis Tornado (1200kg MTPL) for a new Bailey Ranger Series 5 460/4 which is a roomy 4 berth with a max weight of 1184kg. so the Carens will be sound for us.....roll on the end of the year when we get ours.....hope he comes to Yorkshire before he gets up to Scotland incase he only has the one....lol

Regards

Les Wilson.

Let me knoe when you get yours, then again I reckon I should get mine first cos the big man delivers from North to South (or is that top to bottom!?!)

Enjoy!

Well, had my Sorento for 2 weeks now. Just come up to 1500 miles of which 450 were towing.
At the moment, it's almost nicer when towing than solo! I've been using the 'manual' side of the autobox when towing.
Managed a first 'brim to brim' consumption check at about 820 miles and got 26mpg. Did another at about 1220 and also got 26, even though 100 of the 400 miles had been a hard tow through the Grampian hills!
Getting it remapped in the next couple of weeks which should make a fair old difference all round, but towing wise it's as good as it's predecessor, a Grand Cherokee 2.7CRD.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!

I moved from a Zafira 1.8 to a Kia Sedona and havent looked back, the sedona is a great tow car, the zafira was ok but a bit gutless on hills and heavy on the fuel....

Hi Wayne,
How's it going with the Clarus? I own one of those rare and awesome beasts! Mine is an automatic 2L and I was wondering if I could use it for towing. I have heard that I may need a gearbox cooler for automatic models. Any ideas??
