hi, our new van ,that we havent collected yet , has an alko stabiliser on it. can i use my normal 50mm towball after its been de greased or do i need to swap it for the alko ball ?

I think the Alko tow ball is a slightly different shape so it might be worth changing it. We had ours changed but we bought the stabiliser separately and it all came as a kit.

Yes you need an Alko ball - unless you have a swan neck bracket - the Alko ball has a slightly longer neck to allow for full articulation of the hitch with the bulkier stabilser in place.

ok thanks for your advice everyone. i think i`ll ring the seller and ask if he has the correct towball. im sure he said he bought the full package after buying the van.

if you do need to buy one they are only around the £20 mark

he doesnt have the correct towball , used a standard one but recommends the alko ball. are all the alko towballs the same ??

Yep, they're all the same, be sure to remove the black coating pff the ball with fine emery, and dont be tempted to grease the ball before use.

IainM has it spot on...you should use an Alko towball for an alko stabilizer for the reasons given. A standard 50 mm would fit but would be a pain in the nether region to fit each time..(not enough room between the ball and the mounting).
