This is also the case with my VW Touran. The bulb failure device will warn you if a caravan indicator bulb fails.
I was concerned about the legality of this, and took my enquiries all the way to the Department of Transport. They said that many cars were now being imported with this feature, particularly from Germany.
The inference seemed to be that it was something that has crept in via the back door and will be accepted.
