Hi

I have a 1.6cc vauxhall astra estate with maximum towing weight of 1100kg.  Im interest in a 1989 Elddis caravan which the unladen weight is 1060kg. Would this be to heavy for me to tow?  I would not want to use a awning, just have to carry clothing and food.

I have just got a diddy caravan. Ex works weight 580Kg. Max payload of 762Kg will i be able to tow it with a 1.4cc car?

Yes Meg, I think you will be fine with that.

My Honda Jazz is 1.4 and we used to tow a Conway Cardinal hard top camper at 850Kgs MTPLM.

I also used to tow a Compass Shadow 2 berth caravan with my Honda Civic 1.4 a few years ago. Just check the towing weights for the car 'cos it can vary between different makes.

Thanks guys. I've actually just bought a 2ltre Rover off my son and it is plenty big enough to tow, I have been assured so all I need now is a towbar and somewhwere local to store the caravan (I've ordered a number plate).

Does anyone know anywhere to store a wee caravan in the Tameside area that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and is accessible anytime?

I towed a Lunar Saturn for a couple of years with a Peugeot 405 petrol saloon.   The car kerb weight was 1080kg and the caravan maximum laden weight was 1030kg.   It was not a happy combination.  I always felt like the van was about to go ape - but fortunately, it never did.

You are considering towing a van with a car whose kerbweight is about the same as the *unladen* weight of the caravan.  Not a good idea.  Don't go there!!   Either buy a lighter caravan - or change the car for something a LOT heavier.
