It is recommended that the timing belt be changed at 40 k miles.  Mines has done just over 43 k miles and thought I best investigate cost of replacement.  I tried my local garage first who contacted the nearest Kia dealer but they did not want to sell the timing belt to them. Must have thought they were missing out on a job. I contacted them but when I gave them the car reg no. they knew my local garage had already been in touch for the part.  They advised they could supply & fit said timing belt for £320 + VAT. Why so expensive.   I eventually travelled 30 miles to the next kia dealer and bought one.  Could not beleive I paid £95 incl. VAT and all I got was for want of a better phrase " a rubber band with indents".  My local garage will now fit it at a charge of £29/hour.  I know the problems that can come about if the belt is not changed and were to snap but seems a lot of money.

Hi Goodfellas- I think you now realise that most main dealers are rip off merchants when it comes to servicing, there is no doughtthat if you had shoped around at a decent car parts supplier they would have come up with a timing belt at under half that cost, get it done at your local garage and thank yourself lucky you did not get conned into paying the first asking price.  I cannot understand why motor manufacturers dont use a chain timing belt, they are near indestructable, and o.k. they may be fractionaly less quiet who cares.   kiev

The newest Sedonas do have chains, I'm told. The price you were quoted by the dealer doesn't sound too bad for a main dealer we asked our local Kia dealer and were told the timing belt cost £600!! - We've been trying to price up the running costs for the Sedona's against other MPV's.

We suffered a broken belt on a Ford Galaxy just before Christmas - even though the car has always been serviced as per schedule. Cost over £1000 to repair and the fuel consumption has got a lot worse since being done! Needless to say we are now trying to find an MPV with a chain rather than a belt.

It definatley pays to shop around. When our belt went I got some quite stagering differences in price for the repair.

I have recently sold my kia Sedona but feel sure the dealer said the timing belt was due for change at 60,000miles so I would double check before spending any money, mine had 53,000 on the speedo when I sold it, all the best Roy.
