Empty the pouch and reheat in some sauce - as others have said with the cooked rice sachets. Or, you could do this: works for rice and pasta. Particularly useful if you only have one burner.
Pasta: put your required amount of pasta in a bowl or sauncepan, and pour over boiled water so it's all covered. PUt on tje lid, wrap with a tea towel or something that will insulate, and leave for 10-15 minutes. Your pasta should be cooked (check as it's easy for it to go to mush). Meanwhile, make your sauce. Then add the drained pasta reheat a bit, and voila. Or drain the saucepan if used, add a ready made sauce, and reheat on the stove.
Rice: a similar process but you use the stove initially. Put in the required amount of rice in a saucepan and pour over cold water to about 1/2 inch above the rice (N.B. helps to wash it first) and a little salt. Put on the lid and place on stove. Bring to the boil for a couple of minutes. Remove from heat, wrap the pan in a towel/oven cloth, and leave for about 15-20 mins.N.B. also put another teatowel beneath the lid to absorb steam. Check on the rice as it waits and maybe make some holes with the end of a spoon to encourage the release of steam. When ready to serve, fluff it with a fork. Meanwhile, make your sauce or whatever you plan to eat with the rice.
I do this at home and the rice is more successful than just boiling in a pan. I think I've made it sound fussier than it is to do, but, it's more sustainable than using cooked/pre-packaged products and doesn't take that long to do.
------------- Do campers 'peg it'?
