The thing with our SV8 is that the area that we would need to cover is 2.5m x4m, so I think a piece of real carpet would take up too much room in the car. Or we would need about six picnic blankets overlapping.

We managed with just the sig last year, but I just thought a "fitted carpet" sounded really cosy. I'll have a look out for some bargain picnic rugs.

Before we got the SV carpet, that's exactly how many rugs we used. Got them in M&S at the end of the summer season for £1.99 each. They also have them on promotion at the moment if you buy 5 (I think) salad/dip items - a good excuse to stock up on M&S goodies!!!! (although that might still amount to the same cost as a proper carpet!) 

here it is again .. like I said these sell in Costco .. I have one in blue. Funny thing is - never took it camping.   .. mm  off to dig it out the wardrobe now.. 

I;ll check it against the washer too.

OK - I checked this in my washer, mine takes a 7kg load so is bigger than average.. and it only just fit. It'd be ok for as rinse out with very little washing liquid.  It rolls up to the size of a small duvet.  One other thing, the plastic clips on the webbing straps are quite chunky and I could feel these through the mat when I layed it on the bedroom carpet.  the 2 near the edge are fixed but the 2 in the middle can be removed as the webbing had velcro fasteners.  This leaves a couple of small plastic loops which are the ones you fit the shoulder strap to.. so unecessary really. 

Will try it out on this weekend, the backing is strong nylon and not pvc.. so it may slip.

Hi, if you are interested in the picnic rugs, there is a firm called B & M, originally from Clevellys, but they are spreading. I went to the one in Dudley, the rugs are £2.99 each. At these prices, you can afford to do the whole tent cheaply and you just lift them and give them a shake and the housework is done.
