I took my second son when he was 4 months old and we all loved it!

He had an inflatable cot from Holidoze which was great - he's now three and has just grown out of it. It inflates fairly quickly, packs up much smaller than a travel cot and lasts longer than one of the pop up things which didn't seem that safe to me. The design keeps them cool when its hot and warm when its not/

Take something to stick under their beds (and yours too natch) and I would recommend those fleece all in one things over their pjs if its cold at night plus maybe extra blankets that they can kick off.

Take a bucket for the early morning pee that your 4 year old will need urgently. Quite good for you too late at night to save you taking it in turns to go/leaving the kids alone.

The great thing about camping is that they sleep well when they finally drop off because of all the fresh air.

Think about taking something to bath them in near the tent - we used to use one of those big storage boxes - we packed it with stuff to get to the campsite then washed them in it in the evening. A little paddling pool is quite nice too.

Have fun. Don't worry too much about the noise the kids make (although screaming all  night is a no-no obviously). I am now a dab hand at singing lullabies to an entire campsite while my mum reads a bedtime story in the front of the tent.

You will need a tent that is bigger than it should be and if you can manage one with 4 bedrooms you can have somewhere to stick all the toys and clothes out of the way.

We camped with 7 month old last year and it was absolutely fine.  This year he was walking and a total menace!  We couldn't sit down and relax for a minute - whole time was spent following him, keeping him out of other people's tents etc.  It was so bad that we've had to book a cottage with an "enclosed garden" for summer holiday.  Hoping to try a few weekends instead and we'll be Beaver Camping in July.  Any tips for dealing with a mini menace aged one and a half?

There are some great tips on here! I have never seen on of those inflatable cots before but think I would prefer one of them to the pop up bubble cot I was going to go for.

We took our 7 weeks old son away a couple of weeks ago to West Runton C&CC site.

I would recommend a Samsonite pop up bubble travel cot, a gro bag, a buggy or a sling and a set of boobs or bottle if you'd prefer.

Im sure that most of the site knew exactly where we were, but Ben got lots of cuddles that week.

Enjoy it!

Not been with a baby but think that might be easier than a boisterous 3 year old!

I am thinking that to get our tent pitched we will need to trap him with windbreaks!

On the subject of Steribottles, I always kept a supply of them for trips away but found that every now and then we would get a leaky batch which is a right pain in the at rse!

Hopefully we will have a new addition to the family in the next year or so and will definitely attempt to  take him or her camping.
