One of the factors in us not changing our plans to go was that we had to pay the site fees in full when we booked. Is this usual? This was the same for Three Rivers campsite at Clitheroe (2 nights this week) and the C&CC site at Clitheroe (2 nights at the end of August for non-members). We can only go during school holidays. Even booking a few weeks ago, I had to ring about 4 or 5 campsites before I could find one that could fit us in for 2 nights with EHU. After not being able to use our fan heater with the EHU anyway (aaarrrgh!) because of a 6 amp site supply, I would probably get a gas heater next time and not bother with EHU. Would that make it much easier to book at the last minute or do you still need to book well ahead to get the nicest camp sites during school hols?

The more choice you give your self the more options you have  do you have to have everything on site or could you manage with  extras eg pub / club pool   5 / 15 mins away.  I go for an area and then use campsite search and have found some wonderful places. I  make a note of sites I like the sound of and only book the morning we leave.  I also when I get there look at the other sites to see if I would like to go there next time.  I now have more possibles than I am ever going to get to.

Once walked from Brean to Burham on Sea and back via Beach looking at every site made for a great day out.  Tent envy wasn't in it.

It was certainluy the case with the site that we decided to abandon as I mentioned earlier - it was a bank holiday and they had insisted on a chunk of change up front which was non-refundable.

It still wasn't worth staying there to be washed away though
