We have the canopy and it is very useful both for cooking in and keeping the weather out of the tent. But they do have to be pegged down very well. We have added extra line to the front and peg down with storm pegs. We have also added extra pole clips around were you fix it to the tents porch. We had no trouble at all over the bank holiday weekend with the wind and rain.

I have the canopy for the Hartford XL and it is great.  I'm thinking about having a utility tent but not sure because I'm trying to keep equipment to a minimum as only have a small car.  I like the idea of keeping all the kitchen clutter out of the way but I'm not sure it's essential.  I do want one though!

Hi all as a newbie can I ask, as we have a Outwell Vermont L, would like to use a utility type tent to cook in. Would this all be classed within my ONE pitch??

It depends where you camp.  Some sites will be happy for you to have a utility tent, others will say 'it's against fire regulations to have more than one tent on a pitch' or some other jobsworth comment.

Call and ask before you go.

Last year we bought the Royal dayroom - for cooking etc..,. in

and this year, instead of the outwell porch we bought the Royal Traveller annexe ( which is a 'drive away awning)  and it worked really well, we liked the fact that you can zip it up in the evening, which is not an option with the outwell porch, and we fixed it to the porch poles of the tent with a couple of plastic clamps and used a couple of 'clingons' to add an extra guy. It then makes a really huge tent!!

We've bought one of these for cooking and storage. Found it to be invaluable with kids running round.

We have the suncamp dayroom and a utility tent, both pack up really small, especially the utility tent, so you should be able to squeeze it into your car.  The dayroom was great for sitting in in the evenings when we had that awful weather last bank holiday weekend, and also good for the kids to do day rainy activities in.  We don't have the porch option, but it was great being able to stay dry and being able to keep the inside of our main tent clean and tidy.

I believe some sites charge you a little extra a night for a pup tent or utility tent, some don't, some like you to keep to the 6m rule, and some let you have it as close to your tent as you want it.

SunnCamp Handy tent - GREAT!

Stove & Gas bottle, fridge, Kettle, Toaster, pots pans plate etc and all food goes in ours. Also put chairs in at night time to keep em dry.

Never been charged extra for it.
