We have girls of 2 & 4 , the 2 year old is dry in the day but still wears nappies at night, our porta potti is invaluable day & night, if we are having a chill out day by the tent and its a bit of a walk to the toilets the girls just go and use the potti without even having to nag us to take them. The wife also uses it during the night as she refuses to walk to the toilets by herself in the dark. We had a bucket before but it was a pain to get my 4 year old to squat over and you had to empty it every day, but with the porta potti you can leave it a couple of days then empty it.
Without going into HUGE detail , our problem is going to be two bleary boys who have a habit of missing the bowl when half asleep. Anyone got a cure for that one ?

They either sit down to pee (which you could also train them to do at home) or kneel. Even grown men should either kneel or lift the bucket up to the appropriate level. Doesn`t matter how accurate men and boys are, there`s always splashback, ick ick, and that`s pretty horid and smelly on a SIG.
The other thing to do is to place the bucket on a small, easily washable plastic backed picnic blanket. The ones they are currently gving away free with six deli items at M&S are ideal for this.
