Sorry but I cannot see the arguement.   Surely it is down to the site owner whether he goes for all EHU, partial, or none, and he charges accordingly.   The camper then decides do I want to stay at that site and what facilities do I want to pay for.  At a peak period if they do not have the pitch I want do I still want to stay there or find somewhere else?    Some include the hot water in the tarif but they will not give you a reduction if you say you will not use it.

Think of it like a hotel/b&b.    Some will be all en suite, some will have no en suite and others mixture.   When you phone to book it there are none of the cheaper rooms left then they may offer you an en suite at an extra cost.   It would not cut much ice if you said you did not want to pay the extra and promised not to use the bathroom.

hiya i am little annoyed i booked a five day trip to a camp site we went to in july and thought it best to book in advance so i payed a  60 pound deposit to secure the pitch and pay off some of the price.  then at teh end of the telephone conversation after paying the deposit i was told what was left to pay which seamed very high! so i got off the phoe and looked up all the prices i had and broke them all down and then phoned the forest holiday people back out pitch had gone up from 12.00 pound a night to 19.80 a pitch per night a rise of 7 pound 80p! thatas not including the price of the children per night and because were not members of the cc&c club there was a 3 pound a night charge......... to top it all off they did not ask what tent trailer ect we had now after speaking to the actual site they now tell me if its one of the new large tents the super three bedroom domes or just a 6 betrh plus trailer is doubble a night as you need two pitches  (im taking my conway trailer so dont think i need to worry to much) i also have 3 of my own children going 2 foster children so we were going to take the transit van (not a commerical work van just an old transit theat has been bought for such trips) as it had a tow bar and can hold all the equipment NOT alowwed on site!!!! arrrhhhhh

this cheep holiday break is now costing a fortune and turning into a real head ach

were going on the 22 August

so  now were all going to sleep in the transit and park it in the trailer tent awning lol so they cant see it

im not being forced to cancel and lose my deposite just because some snobs think a transit van it not an eye catching car wait till they see my 26 year old conway! she is old but shes fab with loads of room for the children

santamed, I think that the hotel analogy is not comparable, although I see the point you are making, camping I thought was a different concept, and the sites that I have looked at all offer a pitch fee, and an additional fee for the use of electricity. The site I am referring to offers a pitch fee, and an electricity charge, even though all the pitches have EHU, we do not want it yet they are blatantly trying to charge everyone the same rate. A hotel room with an en suite, will generally cost more than a room with no ensuite.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to get  off by it. Perhaps Uk Campsite should set up a charter with a few choice do's and dont's for campsite owners? What do you think?

A friend of mine offered the loan of a brand new pick up he's getting for my camping trip. He was amazed when I told him that we wouldn't be allowed on most sites because of the nature of the vehicle, Why do site owners assume because you are driving a pick up that you are a load of Pikey type people ? The vehicle is costing him in the region of 20 grand which represents the cost of a middle market saloon car.
