Hi Rexgrant
We are very much into modern tents for our Scout Group gives us much more flexibility for winter camping, but there are traditionalists out there who continue to use the old Patrol tents, but they are not good for the colder weather as they don't have sewn in ground sheets.
Sorry but don't know MamaBear, is she into this Scouting lark.

Hi again.
She will be when she finds out about all your sites with Camp Fires
I asked because I came across some sea scouts and only the leaders and the mess tent were traditional, it did not look right with their flag flying over little coloured domes, but it is true what you say, it is 2007.
Regards
Rex

I dont like to be cold so in early and late season we put an old sleeping bag opened out on top of the airbed with a fitted sheet over, then a double sleeping bag and then a double duvert, always nice and warm. I also put picnic rugs in the living area to insulate underfoot and make sure the switch for the heater is within reach for first thing in the morning. The kids have camping mays under there airbeds and 4 season mummy bags and are laways nice and snug.
welcome!!
We do that in the summer and have a 1kw oil filled radiator, and my nose is still freezing! I'm working on a special nose covering hat for the next trip
We are going to normans bay in october. An old sleeping bag under the airbed to insulate it from the ground and another between it and us.Cover it all with the 13 tog duvet and we are cosy. If it really gets cold wear a light fleece top and jogger bottoms and a knitted hat. Picnic blanket on floor to keep feet comfortable helps too. Also sites will be less full then so more room and peace and quiet with no queues at facilities.
Oh I am so tempted cos I still have camping fever and am told that I need more of the same Seriously though we have never camped so late in the year but with all the tips on keeping warm it makes sense doesn't it ,considering the disastrous summer we have had.Half term break here I come then.!!
We camped at the end of last October, and the weather was not good. We had a tent heater for first thing in the morning and the evening. I just took some fleecy blankets for extra warmth with the sleeping bags. I find the throw type the best because they can be used either inside or outside the tent. We took warm clothes, and weren't in the least bit cold.
Sadly the rain and galeforce winds defeated us, and the majority of other campers, as after a lot of torrential rain, the already damp camping field became a lake. We were meant to be going on the Friday, but on the Wednesday afternoon the heavens opened, and it continued to pour down all night. When I wen to the loos on Thursday morning, I paddled. Loads of people packing up, and the site was flooded. Had it not been for this we would have stayed.
Its great camping in late season. Currently on site in Bala and the weather is glorious although chilly at night. It is so peaceful I wanter to stay for another 2 weeks!
We always go end oct and have even taken small babies and kids. Extra blankets above and below, fleece p.js, bed socks and flick the heater on before you get up to take chill off. Rember if you get cold on the day in takes longer to warm up so keep warm all day too. It will be great!
Thanks for all the advice - I'm a newbie camper too - OH has been trying to persuade me into a tent for year and finally succeeded a couple of months back. We're heading back to Breck Farm in Norfolk in a fortnight and as a real chilly mortal I have been taking notes from you all!
