Hello Denise
I really enjoyed reading your post and found how you took on board your experience and have related it to other aspects of your life really interesting.
Thought you might be interested.... I used to teach meditation techniques to an anxiety group (hope to again soon, just circumstances preventing me at the mo) It was a coarse i devised myself, called pathways to wellbeing, basically it was helping people self analys and teaching them how to regain control and explore and understand their emotions and subconscious. It was an all round positive experience because just the deep breathing techniques as we went into meditation (which is a form of hypnotism) calmed down their feelings of anxiety. Gradually i introduced colour visualisation and sound therapy too. Initially, the results i was working towards were just helping the group find a way of stilling and calming the mind and teaching them to 'go deep inside' for the answers, a theraputic and holistc method of self help for their anxiety issues, but what we actually got was so very much more. People seemed to open up to a compassionate side of themselves, released buried emotion, started interpreting eachothers meditive experiences to help eachother... and in doing so, found inner strength themselves. I did this work voluntarily, i wish i knew how to make it my job, because now circumstances forced me back into work (youngest child started school and hubby left) i have no time to do voluntary work at the mo and i do miss this kind of work so much.
