Hi

I would say the old stripey ones, last year we had both, we have had to throw away the new one, after a bad night of wind it bent the poles, guess which one was left standing? The old stripey one, they may not look as nice, but they are better

We use the stripey ones too and fit solar lights onto the wooden poles they fit a treat and ideal if you are sitting out on a dusky night :)

Is there a knack to putting up the branded ones?

We are windbreak-less at the moment after nearly all the poles on our stripey one snapped in some bad winds whilst camping on the east coast year.  Wasn't much fun running around outside at 3am in that wind & rain in just PJ's trying to take it down.  We're now considering a branded one.

Stripey ones take up too much space in the car - but have to say we aren't particularly good at 'pitching' our branded one.

We use guys and use solar lights to show where the guys are pegged in. but I rather like your idea of putting them onto the wooden poles as well.  Will have to buy another set.!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you have to what about plain green.

Stripey ones rip the heart out of the natural scenery.  I used to use them but now I think sod my privacy.  The amount of people that I see camped in a huge open space and feel the need to create a "fenced garden" amazes me.  I think it is just because the UK is so crowded we strive for our little bit.  ( of course there are exceptions when they are good - nude sunbathing  perhaps :-)) )

we have the Khyam one and once put up and guyed out it is brilliant - we only had one problem when an unsupervised dog was hell bent on visiting our dogs and fought his way under wrecking one of the poles but we were able to replace 1 pole rather than the whole windbreak . Plus it matches the tent and looks very twee!

God, haven't even put our new Khyam up yet and aleready I'm hankering for accessories!

Would it keep Mr F nice and busy though? He does like to spend much of our holiday adjusting his windbreaks. It keeps him from getting the infernal guitar out, too.

Many thanks for your all your advice.  I've taken the plunge and ordered two Vango Large Windbreaks.  Ordered them from Yeomans at £29.99 (NEC prices) and got free delivery so i'm chuffed.  Just awaiting their arrival.

I guess the best way to find out which one's best is to try them out.  Still keeping the stripey ones though!

Thanks again

I too prefer the branded ones.

put all the guys to the outside of your pitch then you can’t trip over them.  just might get the odd passerby in the night if you put it to near a walkway.

Eh? Don't you have to guy them both sides to make it stand up?

Cut the poles in half on mine, then fitted alloy pipe onto the bottom half, held on with a screw. Top half slots in to make full pole again. Can now fit it in the clio boot.

schuee,

as I remember we got ours from Somerset Camping - but you can get them off Ebay, the Gorge Outdoors at Cheddar and currently Cave and Crag .co.uk have it at £25 which I think is lesss than I paid for it!

Thanks for posting this topic, I was wondering about them! Although I was not thinking about a windbreak for privacy, but for cooking in as I dont think my tent will allow for this in the small porch area if it rains. Was thinking of putting it in a triangular shape and using a large brolly if needed. what do you lot that know think?

stripey ones as we also take them to the beach too - not sure whether the branded ones would work so well on the beach - but never had any so don't know!

We have a stripey one, but find it very unstable in winds.

No the end ones keep it up and the middle ones keep it strate so can all be put on the same side
