Who wants to sleep on a dining table anyway?  I like my hugh luxurious bedroom in my tent!  Anyone can go to their bedroom where they like - we don't all have to spend half the night making up beds!

I agree Jane, we put our beds up when we arrive and that`s it, no faffing about putting them away so we can sit down to eat in the morning. I appreciate most caravanners have awnings, but I don`t know many who leave their beds down all the time. We can go to bed, sit and watch a DVD on the laptop in the living area, sit in the kitchen area and never have to fold away or put away anything to do so.

That's exactly what we'll be doing with the van we've just got. I've always been dead against having a caravan because of having to make the bed up at night and turn it into seats again in the morning, but as there's only the two of us it means we can leave the bed made up, still have a small seating area, and we've got all the space in the awning as well. So really we'll be living in the van exactly the same way as we live in the tt.

You can get caravans with fixed beds nowadays you know - we have got one! And even if the front bed is made up for our boys they are not sleeping on the dining table - there are special slats for the bed and the dining table stows neatly away in its own little cupboard. They usually sleep in the awning though where their beds can be left made up.

Fat Bum

BTW As a caravanner I know I should not really be posting in this section - that has been made very clear to me in the past!

Edited for spelling!!

I'm sorry if we've not made you welcome on the canvas forum Fat Bum, rest assured that most of us are glad you're here, I occasionally stray onto the caravan or motorhome forums if I feel I've something to contribute and have felt made welcome.

We look forward to hearing from you again!

Thank you Kate - before we got our caravan 18 months ago we tent camped for 6 years so we do know a little bit about tents (at one point we owned 6 different tents - we still have 3 which we intend to keep so that our boys can use them - one is still used as a pup tent anyway).

Our main reason for getting a caravan was so that we could enjoy our camping trips throughout the year, particularly October and Feb half terms without freezing to death! We spent over 40 nights away in our caravan last year.

It wouldn't accept my membership number either. Seeing as we have had it for 38 years it should be OK.

You post in here if you like Fatbum, 8 years of tenting = a lot of experience and advice and just `cos you`re a tintenter now doesn`t mean your advice won`t be appreciated as far as I am concerned.
