We take the second car - it saves the game of tetris style packing.

We discovered space saver bags for all the soft bulky stuff, i.e sleeping bags, clothes, blankets e.t.c.

If you don't mind the creases on your clothes !

You can use your electric air bed pump to suck the air out of it.

Now everything fits into the boot of our Skoda Octavia.

( Tent, picnic table, 2 folding tables, 5 folding chairs, Travel cot, cooker, lamps, gas e.t.c. )

we had loads in our peugeot 306, inc. a roofbox, but we were struggling to bring it all home wet - we had made no allowances. so its fine if it all goes according to plan. i think we'll be upgrading to a bigger car asap, or getting a trailer.

Car, roof box and trailer. We just seem to get more and more every year. Don't know now how we managed when we first started camping with just the car. There again buying tents and camping gear can be addictive you know !!

i agree! i got scoffed at today for being totally 'uncool' looking for a camping mag in WHSmiths, but i too find it addictive.

Glad I'm not the only one fahlin. I end up looking in the local Millets at least once a week and searching the web. Thing is we don't need anything else just like to look on the off chance.

thanks for all the comments

it seems like i should be ok for space and i don't fancy getting a roofbox(cheap camping would then be not so cheap camping)

if all else fails i can just leave the kids at home(don't tell social services)

I have a yukon and disagree the Orchy 500 or 600 has more room, my yukon is fine and plenty of space (2 adults and child) and the living area is great, its also a dream to erect and take down, I manage it in less than 30 mins single handed, even the missus can do it on her own (just chooses not too!)

can you give me some feedback on you Yukon600 as it's at the top of my shortlist

do you think it would be big enough for 4 of us(it will be for mostly weekends with a possible occasional week break)

also how wide is the 4 berth bedroom

do you think i could fit two double mattresses in it

Here are the measurements from the 2008 booklet.

280 length x 300 width living area in Orchy 600

270 length x 270 width bedrooms in Orchy 600

235 length x 275 width living area with bedroom 3 fitted Yukon 600

210 length x 275 width bedrooms in Yukon 600

Orchy seems bigger to me.
