We used to just disappear into the hills for a week or so,carried everything we needed. Not much choice of dried or light weight meals in the 80's that was affordable to the average person ,we tended to use powdered instant mash, soups etc and some tinned foods which really pushed up the weight you carried.Cairngorms and Glencoe were our favourite haunts!!! excuse the pun.lol

Hi all,

I've been going camping for a few years on various sites using the big tent with the family etc but this year I fancy a bit of a challenge & go "proper camping" with just tarp, hammock and bivvy & what ever else I need in my bergen. Just a friend & I going, both in our early 30's and pretty fit & healthy. After reading the posts here I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on where to go in Scotland for this type of camping, friends of mine go to the Isle of Skye I think and I was hoping to maybe go around Loch Lomond or a similar area.

I've heard there is a right to roam in Scotland but I've just read that you need permission to walk on private land, is that the same for camping etc? I know there is a problem with some people not leaving the area as they found it and leaving beer cans and all sorts of rubbish behind, has this affected where you can go now?

Any help, tips, suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciatted as there seems to be a lot of people out there with a great deal more knowledge and experience than me at this so it would be stupid not to ask.

Thanks in advance,

Scot
