Having camped before we did have some gear in the garage but decided that this year we'd buy a larger tent, one that we could stand up in. There was the start of the problem! Because the tent was bigger we could have a proper table and chairs, then came the camp kitchen. We decided the EHU at £29.99 was so cheap we'd be daft not to. Because all this new stuff made the old stuff look flea bitten we then headed to Poundland for new melamine crockery etc etc etc. Then we realised that our boot wasn't THAT big so purchased a roof box bargain at ALDI for £60. I now realise that the Diablo 600 is too big for many campsites so we've decided to take it back for an exchange tomorrow for a monty 6! So what has all this cost us so far? Nearly £600!!! And my idea was that as Haven wanted an extortionate amount for a static during the school hols we'd be saving money!!!!! Now the only way of justifying the expense is to go away at every opportunity to local campsites. More money! So why do we do it? To get away, as someone rightly said, from the phone, the computer and all the hassle of humdrum life, where time doesn't matter and rushing isn't necessary. Ah bliss. WORTH EVERY PENNY!

If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules

Every year we say we aren`t buying anything this year. Every year OH tells me NOT to buy anything else as we don`t need it.

This year I have been good, well nearly. Between us OH and I bought a new table as we thought it better than the one we had. It has adjustable legs and a solid top and we have used it once and are very pleased with it. Then we bought a mini pan set, one person set I think it is, from Wilkinsons, that we can keep inside the smallest pan of our existing pan set as we find our pans are too large sometimes, and these are handy as they will hold small items such as a tin of beans.

Then OH decided a suitcase type gas ring would be great for an additional ring to save him juggling pans round on our two ring stove. It`s also handy for when you just want to boil a kettle, so we bought one of them.

Then I saw the camping cupboards in Aldi and decided we had to have one for long trips, to stop the kids throwing clothes all round the tent  We haven`t used it yet, but it will coming away with us in three weeks time.

After that we said enough was enough, we REALLY didn`t need anything else. Then last weekend our inflatable sofa/bed which I bought last year much to OH`s annoyance as he said we didn`t need one, waste of money etc, then once he tried it we couldn`t get him off it, had a hole put in it and now the back won`t stay inflated and we can`t find the patch, soooooooooooooooooooooooo, today in Netto OH bought another inflatable sofa  Apparantly it was too good a price for him to ignore! So the agenda seems to be...............if we can find the patch we will fix the other sofa and take BOTH sofas with us, on the basis that it means all four of us can sit on a sofa and stop the arguments, plus son can use one inside his bedroom as a bed at night time, so saving us having to buy another airbed as his burst. Well that`s OH`s theory.

Sum total so far this year

Table £19.99

Camping cupboard £14.99

Pan set £6.99

Suitcase stove £7.99 + £3.99 for four gas canisters.

Inflatable sofa £29.99

So we have spent £83+ on stuff this year when we BOTH said we didn`t need anything else!

lol I'm glad I'm not the only one ;)  Actually my Go Outdoors order arrived and they didn't send me half the things I'd ordered (despite it saying they were in stock when I ordered and still say in stock now!).  So I need to source them from elsewhere.

Oh and I popped in to Millets today and guess what, half price sale, well I couldn't turn down a Vango Night-something-or-other sleeping bag for £20 could I?????

For our cheap [sic] camping holidays we have bought:

a big car

a roof box

and today, a trailer

plus all the stuff to fit the above items.

The trouble is I think we might have a bit of space left in the new trailer so I'll have to find a way of filling it... any ideas?

Clare

Just got back from our second camping holiday this year in Lincolnshire. (seven days of sunshine great)

Have added a few new items both before and during trip. EHU and TV (must get a slim line LCD TV for camping trips to save space   ) etc. took up a lot more space than was really available to us. We got a trailer last year for the extra space. Have already extended the sides upwards an extra foot, so will have to get a bigger trailer for our next trip in August.    Bring on the sales, can't wait to spend more money on this cheap hobby.

Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
