If i remember correctly it took us about 2 hours to erect the Gelert Lokon Vario 6 but a lot of that time was spent threading the poles through the sleeves and reconecting them when they came apart. Hope we will improve with practice, it was our first attempt. On the subject of instructions, dont know if other manufacturers are any better but have you tried following the instructions or understanding the pictures ? I found it's like flat packed furniture, at first read the instructions, then discard and go for it.
Our last trip to Conwy with our Vango daiblo 600 took me and my oh 2.5 hrs, this was just for the tent, the threading of the tent poles took forever. Then probably another 1/2 hr for the utility tent and other equitment.
We are away for the bank holiday my oh is travelling to the campsite on his own and will be putting everything up by himself!! Due to my work commitments i will be travelling and joining him later. let me tell you this will be hillarious him errecting the tent on his own, there was a few choice words last time with me helping him, so i can just imagine the air will be blue!!! he he
We have a 5 hoop tunnel tent also. Agree that end to end is the best method for pitching. As with most tents, the first time putting it up took ages but we're much quicker now. Have a look at the pitching video for the Indiana 8 on the Khyam website (sorry I don't have a link) - its very similar to your tent.
We decided to have a test run of our new Vango Diablo 600 yesterday to check its all ok before we go away for hols in it. We watched the DVD, went down to some army land (as we don't have a garden) and took the printed instuctions with us just in case. It took us 45 mins to pitch - which I thought was a pretty good time for a first go We'll likely take a little more time finishing off to make sure we get it perfect once we're actually camping in it tho
We were impressed with our wolf lake 5, we had a practice run at putting up and that took 1 hour for the 1st time, that was including me having to undo all the factory wrapped guy ropes, having a mini row cos he was shouting at me and I was muttering back at him for shouting at me, once we get that ritual row out of the way it always seems to get up quicker!
Hopefully when we go away and put it up for real it should take less time. (2 weeks tomorrow that is) Mind you doing everything else usually takes around another hour.

My Khyam came with a DVD.
It's supposed to be super-quick to put up, but it comes with 72 pegs which aren't mentioned
What if you don't have a dvd player with you?
When we first got ours it took ages to put up. We'd put the poles in the wrong way round and have to take them all out again or we'd do it all in the wrong order and get to a point where we'd have to backtrack, but now it takes two of us less than 40mins, or I can do it myself in about an hour.
Ha,we did exactly the same thing with our darwin-do you leave the inners in or hang them up afterwards?
we find the tent virtually impossible to raise up with the inners attached
The way OH does it: put all the poles in on the ground, then put the ends of the poles in the eyelets (which was why we didn't notice at first that we'd put them ALL in the wrong way!). I don't have the strength to do it that way by myself, so I put the silver pole in first, put it in the eyelet, pull it up and peg it out at the back, then put the poles in working from forwards from the back.
Once you get the hang of it you realise what a fabulous tent it is. I don't think there's many tents of that size that I could manage on my own.
Our 'big' tent is a 4 hoop tunnel - but the poles are steel so pretty heavy. We have found that the secret is to make sure that the poles are 'on top' of each other in the correct order so we can walk it forward - the first time we did it we stuck the poles in in the order they came out of the bag and then had to 'detangle' it which was very heavy work.
The other tent we have had instructions that said to insert all the poles - but we have since found it is much quicker and lighter work to erect the dome and then put in the bedroom poles.
You do get quicker with practice, but I think if a tent was taking more than 30 mins to get to the 'upright and watertight' stage I'd want something different - as even with that it takes a further hour to get the bedroom pods, beds, tables etc. set up.
I have a rage tunnel tent - first year it used to take about 1.5 hours - I now can erect it on my own in about half hour - you become used to what it needs & which way round to pitch, & how it will fit on a pitch - so I just stick in the 4 poles, peg one end, pull the other end to raise the tent, peg out, two inner tents & a middle ground sheet later & there you are!!!
simple - even for a woman!
You too will become used to your tent with practice.
