Lighting is one thing you don't have to skimp on if you have a mains supply - bearing in mind health and safety considerations - as Rex reminds us, there's likely to be condensation - particularly in synthetic tents...

Personally I'm taking to chances with my first EHU experience - all my electrics are in the spare bedroom - with slits neatly cut into the fabric to get the plugs through - and I have a pack of 4 wireless-controlled relays (8 quid in Aldi a while back) - so I won't have to do much unplugging or operating switches.

My main light is going to be one of those Ikea uplighters - they come in a small box and are very stable - but with a 20 watt fluorescent in place of the 150 watt quartz halogen - not that it will be allowed anywhere near the tent fabric.

My cooking area light will be an 8 watt fluorescent inspection light I just bought - I'll probably be applying a dob of silicone here and there.

I will also tentatively be experimenting with an Ikea ceiling light to see if it's the magnet for condensation I fear it may be ...

My own background involves setting up AV equipment safely for people to use, but the addition of water is a challenge

we have a coleman rechargable lantern-brilliant light from it .it takes about 12 hours to re charge on the ehu and this will give you about 9 hours of light(about 3 nights on high setting or 12 hours on econemy setting).costs about £20 in a sale mrp £30.the light from it is superb and if you have ehu costs nothing i.e. no batteries
