We took our kids out for two weeks a few years back. We had a bit of grumbles from the school but it did get an OK in the end. Interesting thing though, was that it was December. Holiday was really cheap and tourist type place almost empty.
When the kids went back to school we found out they had not done alot, been watching DVDs and playing games etc. This was because the teachers were busy clearing walls and classrooms for the new term.
This year we took the kids away in May/June. The first week of our holiday was end of term so not cheap. The second week was alot cheaper since the schools had gone back. It happened that the schools had a teacher training day on the Monday so I only had to book 4 days.
This year I have 2 starting secondary. Am not sure yet what to do as we really can't afford out of term prices. Luckily we now have a tent, but I think with careful planning and working out when the schools ar going to be doing the least work you can get a cheap holiday and keep the schools happy.
