would probably think twice if i had a tent with a sig. did scarborough, keswick and malham out of season and the draughts were too much, even with the heater on. any reccomendations? i looked on ebay last night, but am slightly dubious about buying off there, we ended up with a piece of crap tent last year! (yes i got my dosh back!)

We put a fleece balnket on our chairs like a sort of chair liner,  leave it hanging down a bit at the front so it sheilds your legs from draughts, seems to work quite well. Everyone takes their chair blanket into bed  at bedtime, nice and cosy.

Hi ,

Just come back from my 6th trip this year, all ranging from 2 to 5 nights........and guess what, not 1 has been completely dry!!!! Its been a big learning curve, what with a force 9 gale, 2 thunderstorms, lots of wind and my old mate rain!! This was the first time that we have had to put away the tent while it was wet. Both tents are now in the garden, hoping to get them dry...this week???

We are busy on both weekends that I am off in Sept, so chairs are in the loft, all bedding washed, and the cooker has been in the dishwasher, all ready for the winter. I am gutted that this was the last camp of the year, but I don't think that Oct will be warm enough for the kids!

Just waiting to see if we can go abroad with our Tesco vouchers, to at least have 1 week of sunshine!

Rich

Hi Val,

Just wondering, when you say you've stipped your tt, do you actually take the canvas off the frame for the winter?

We've had our tt for 5 years now and we haven't done that yet, but wonder if we should store the canvas in the house instead of leaving in the garage on the trailer.

Hi all
We have now lofted our champagne and kitchen tent. From now until April we will cook in the main tent kitchen.
We go away for two weeks to Bude C&C Club site on the 11th of this month, for two weeks in the new Andorra and then that gets lofted.
Mid October we are Going to the woods for a couple of weeks Graffham C&C Club site with our old Andorra But that will stay in the spare room as I am really trying to convince val to go away for Christmas
Now we have the Two tatonka polycotten tarps that will when used over the Andorra gives cover to the rear door used as a window only the other used partially over the one already on will give me a very secure awning on the front enclose with my see through side panels and can be be dropped down over the front to make the front more wind resistant if necessary. this also gives us a double skin on the roof and as no ill affects, so this in theory should keep more heat in the tent.
With our bathtub pond liner, close weave carpets over that rugs over that in the sitting area and kitchen area and carpeted bedroom. 2 kw fan-heater set at the required temperature gives us controlled central heating the whole time we are in the tent. we also have a two element parabolic LPG heater in case of a power cut and a 85 amp leisure battery for light and Films as well if the power cut last a long time. 15" TFT and DVD to keep us entertained.
No if you get the right gear you can camp all year and as we discussed last week more and more sites are catering for this with all weather pitches for tents,
But A breathable tent is a must for the long cold nights you spend in your tent shut up.
Keep on camping if I can get val to go away this Christmas we shall celebrate her 70th birthday away.I think the October one this year will decide for her.
Fried fillet stake instead of that dry turkey stuff.
all the best
Rex.

We just had a weekend of glorious sunshine and  in the cotton tent, pitched in the forest hence in the shade, it was 29 degrees ..... quit now? Not a chance.

Maybe I will end up eating my words as we just had a thunderstorm but as we live in hope :)

As I write my Outwell Hartford XL is draped over the (tiny ) garden awaiting me to go and spoge down the groundsheet (ggrrrr....for that reason not having as fully sewn in GS next time...zipped one for me )..........

we won't be camping again now until next May....unless finances allow a smaller weekend tent and the weather perks up between now and the end of sept ( unlikely on both counts ! )

with that better get on with it as it looks as if the heavens are about to open...
