..if she still doesnt want to come then i will put it down to experience ..........

I think this is the best idea: imagine the sheer joy of being away in a tent in poor weather with a resentful teenager who's been pressured into going away with Mum and Dad!

As others have said, are there other family things you could do from home this weekend so that you can still spend some time together? And is it possible to plan future camping trips about what they want to do and when? That doesn't sound too hot written down like that, but it might keeping you all camping together longer than you might otherwise if that's what you want.

I remember Mum and Dad being elated when I announced that I no longer wanted to go on their Caravan Club rallies when I was 15!

They didn't get a rest from kids for long though as they now take my son (7) and daughter (11) with them every now and then. They love to have fum with their grand children but also love the fact that they can bring them back home on Sunday evening.

It's the great circle of life! I'm sure I'll be taking my grandkids camping when our kids are all grown up.

i agree merry ....its not that they didnt want to come this time its just my eldest daughter has college commitments and has just started a new job and she couldnt come and i can quite understand why my youngest didnt want to come because she would be bored with just us.................. all is not lots yet .....my daughter is at college half day monday.... and if she hasnt any shifts in her new job next week she said she still wants to come......... it will mean hubby and youngest going ahead before us and putting the tent up (damn shame) then us following on. just this minute spoke to both girls and they both want to go camping still its just circumstances

thanks for all your wise words folks i appreiciate it and will let you know what happens

A tent is like a newborn born baby..... to some they all look the same..... but if its yours it's beautiful.

Hi gillychick. i am glad you have managed to resolve the issue, a great win win situation is always better than a fight because no one will ever win in the long run. We always change to suit what we do dependant on which one of the girls is left with us, we always ask what they want to do and try to do things for her that we could not do with both, that way they don't feel left out and even look forward to spending time with us and just themselves. each of the girls get their own special time with us and we like it too.

I hope it all goes well but if your older girl can't come then make it special for the younger one make her feel special and you in return will feel good.

with my 4 ranging in ages 24, 22, 19 and 14 we have been through this.  we found giving them the choice of were to camp and letting them have there own tent did the trick.  the older 3 have now left home but would jump at the chance of coming with us now so they do come back to it. my 14 year old allways brings a frend and has her own tent. its not very big but she can stand up in it and aslong as she can make it her own space with a littel table and chairs and other bits that sorts her out its there own space they seam to want not being next to mum and dad in a tent and having room not just a little pup tent wioth a bed in but room to move about and sit in there with her frend. the only think she doesnt ahve is cooking equipment but she does take a flask in with her. they dont want to be kids anymore. for my peace of mined as there on there own she usualy has one of the dogs in with her.
