The only thing that puts me off of a tent is the kneeling down. That is something I cannot do. I have replacement knees and kneeling is no longer an option. It is nothing to do with the pain or the like it is simply a no no.
So pegging out, getting into bed, just about everything I can remember from camping days, seemed to involve some form of kneeling.
I envy you and your freedom.
As for the length of time one can spend in a tent, well we live in a rural community and up until the First World War families would move here to sleep in tents and work the Harvest. They would be here for months on end.
Now furra wee bit o history for you.
In the 1881 Census for Old Kilpatrick on the banks of the River Clyde, my Grandfather's Brother is a Farm Labourer living in Tent number 15, Main Street.
Old Kilpatrick at that time was a Tent Town like you see in the American Wild West. The tents had wooden frontages and canvas backs. There were Male tents and Female tents and you were not allowed to mix, even if you were married.
Most of the inhabitants were from Ulster and were here in Scotland to work the land during the summer. They would return home for the winter. Our family did not return home but settled here eventually in Glasgow.
Hey, I'm from a farming family too Lobey, sadly we no longer farm. I've promised myself a trip up to Perth for many years & I read on another forum that I've missed the Bull sales there yet again. Perhaps I'll make it in Februeary.
