Its only unfair if the 'snipe' is a shill-bid by the owner or owners friend in order to push up the last bidders price. Dangerous ploy though as it doesn't leave the last bidder time to make a higher bid if they blow their limit.

I use ebay quite a lot and I've found that weighing up the item and what it is worth to me and I put a bid in on that basis. I usually win the item because most people on there want the stuff for next to nowt. I still get a bargain though, because the price to me is well worth it. What I've never understood is why people put in a bid at 99p on an item which potentially may go for a couple of hundred quid. Do they really think they are going to get it for 99p ??  Ebay is a great place to buy but a bloody awful place to sell.

I got a twelve feet sailing boat hull for a penny. It was the only bid.

My maximum bid was for a lot moore, but as no one else bid, that was what it went for.

I did actually give him a tenner so he could at least get a drink out of it.
